hello, fediverse — it's me, hikari_no_yume! I've set up my own server so that I can have a public presence without locking myself into some particular Mastodon clique or whatever.
I'm using GoToSocial (gotosocial.org/), and so far it's exactly the lightweight, easy-to-run server I was hoping for ^^
for me:
running my own instance > using Twitter > using someone else's instance
in terms of how much practical control over my data this gives me
I really like that I'll never lose any of my post history if I don't want to, I can probably keep it public at the same URLs even if I stopped hosting an instance, and I can definitely trust *myself* not to invade my privacy or whatever
