jump to expanded postAnnouncing my first project from my uhh… period of unemployment…?
I wrote a tool that converts .obj (the 3D model format) into HTML via very elaborate abuse of CSS, so that I could shitpost on a website called Cohost. It was a lot of fun!!

@hikari I wonder why people call it a "browser killer" - I'm on a 11 year old MacBook Pro 8 (early 2011!) which gets killed by almost anything - but not by this.
@wonka it depends a lot on the particular browser, and possibly the OS? in my experience, Safari has always handled 3D transforms the best in terms of smoothness
@hikari Oh, it's Firefox 107.0 on Linux 6.0.9 (should boot really something newer...) currently, with a Debian-based distribution. MacOS has run less than 24h yet on that machine.
@wonka ah! well, one thing this tells me is your machine has working gpu accelerated rendering
@hikari That it does. Luckily, otherwise playing videos in Firefox would likely be impossible.
(for the same root cause, not because playing videos would be "rendering")
