jump to expanded postthe way some pre-NeXT Apple APIs use FourCC codes is incredibly cute. instead of expressing an error as a meaningless number they cram a tiny cry for help into a 32-bit word… 'fmt?', 'wht?', 'nope' <3
it seems like the website https://www.osstatus.com/search/results?platform=all&framework=all&search= has some of these, if you’re curious! of course, that’s just error codes. apple’s love of the fourcc goes far beyond that. and yes, a few of these apis somehow escaped the 1990’s and are still around on modern apple devices!
