considering how the internet has let people make friendships across borders, i would have hoped nobody would be cheering for a new cold war. 😢

I am never going to cheer for erecting further barriers between civilisations, regardless of what crimes the leaders of states might be up to. fuck collective punishment. individuals are not disposable pawns in a great game, they are threads in the collective tapestry of humanity
when the 2022 escalation of the russia–ukraine war happened, of course i was filled with terror for the ukrainians. but the other half of my heart was worried for what would happen to ordinary russians. they live in a dictatorship. they don’t deserve social or corporal death.
when the united states, in 2038, finally declares it has eradicated every last trace of chinese influence on the american culture, i hope its leaders gaze into the voids in their own souls and collapse to the ground sobbing.
