jump to expanded postreading about the history of the soviet union is like
anakin: we’re gonna have a revolution
padmé: in spirit, not just in name, right?
anakin:
padmé: …right?
for every “socialist” thing the soviet union did, you have to peel back several layers of disingenuous framing and figure out what capitalist thing it actually is a worse version of
for example the soviet… soviets weren’t soviets, the soviet “collective farms” weren’t collective, the trade unions weren’t unions, it goes on and on and on and on
normal capitalism at least pays its workers lmao
the soviet union was a cia psyop to ensure that the people of checks notes the soviet union would never trust any leftist organising concept again
@hikari does it really? (Mind drifts to carceral slavery in the USA).
Admittedly, having visited a factory in China, my impressions were that they also have the worst of all worlds. Unlivable wages, terrible hours and an oppressive government too.
Unlike the USA though, the products in stores were extremely inexpensive.
If there is a more ethical country not under the dominance of a tyrannical one, I haven't yet visited it. Maybe it exists in reality not just theory somewhere.
