jump to expanded postcan we all agree that a video game system or similar is considered βretroβ once the hardware and software are no longer manufactured or sold. the Nintendo 3DS is retro. the Wii U is retro. the PS Vita is retro. early iPhone and iPod touch games are retro. I'm not taking criticism
@hikari i like this as a definition. more workable than anything that just goes off feelings
@eniko exactly!
@hikari saw Breath of the Wild on "Reduced to Clear" at Tesco last year so I'm going to call BotW retro now
@hikari@social.noyu.me in my eyes: retro is one full generation of people away (~20 years), vintage is two full generations of people away (~40 years)
@hikari oh I've got an even better one
Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is retro
@hikari "retro" has to be a moving post, one that encompases old/not-in-stores-new/not-manufactured-anymore.
Otherwise we are gatekeeping new generations from enjoying their nostalgia and preserving their past.
I wholeheartedly agree with you.
@hikari Is the PS3 retro? It still gets firmware updates like once a year.
@rc2014 not in the sense that I meant, at least.
