jump to expanded postif you're wondering what bluesky is like: you know those insufferable Influencer types who think Twitter is meant to be LinkedIn and spend all day tweeting banal shit about software development? well, on bsky, all of them use a bot to auto-follow you the moment you join.
so on bsky, 90% of your followers are spam, by default, and you can't even remove them AFAICT.
also, your feed has no option to exclude replies from people you follow to people you don't follow, so most of it is irrelevant to you.
this, to me, is hell.
the vibe of the place is very chaotic. early days I guess.
anyway despite these two things I'm annoyed at, it is a promising place and probably gonna be more successful than all the other Twitter alternatives I've seen so far
the conventional fediverse (mastodon etc), though I've found a way to make it okay for me, is kind of terrible as a social network design. fediblock is not a good moderation strategy and the system does not allow better options. I don't think it can win. it will be replaced
@hikari smaller hubs (threatening to) defederating the main server due to spam alone can fragment the network forever, at which point people would just switch to like nextcloud chats, since they only care about local hubs. kinda the same happened when public forums moved into discord
@hikari The fediverse or mastodon? Nothing stopping a mastodon replacement from implementing additional / other strategies after all.
Not that I can tell what will happen, I’m terrible at guessing these things. Often because the general public feels very differently about things than what I do.
All I know is that I’m never going back to commercial/monetization social media. Nothing is worth what then do.
(I have no loyalty, I will jump to new things. So we’ll see.)
