this video can also be found at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2e1bhWHrhjg and https://twitter.com/hikari_no_yume/status/1671811539240615939 if that's useful
here's the compiled map, if you wanna try it for yourself :3 https://hikari.noyu.me/etc/2023-06-21-cs_submersible.bsp
i think i only used hl2/cstrike assets?
i finished this late yesterday. as usual, there were some tiny brushes in it that hammer destroyed when saving the map, so i can never recompile it, rip
wait why is the lighting fucked up in the version i uploaded
uhhhhh
ok so, on my system, the lighting in the map will be fucked up (everything's too bright, and the visors on the CTs are opaque white rather than transparent when selecting a model) if the map js renamed from 2023-06-21-cs_submersible.bsp to something else? is that normal?
ok so apparently you may need to type buildcubemaps in the console when you first enter the map, then disconnect and recreate the server, otherwise the lighting is broken
lmao ok so apparently renaming a source map will break the cubemaps. i've been chasing my tail trying to solve the problem of there not being cubemaps, but actually there are cubemaps! the problem was just me renaming the map, as i originally thought
source is such a fucking spaghetti engine. the cubemaps can't be found and therefore the lighting gets fucked up if you rename a map file, and not because the map is referencing external files, but because it's referencing itself! it refers to its own filename! sjsfksdfk
behind the scenes (please watch the video at the top of the thread first)
