jump to expanded postspeaking a germanic language* is great because you can see some shit like “Verenigde Nederlandse Uitgeverijen” and be like ”ahh, Förenade Nederlänska Utgivarien”
* english doesn't count sorry
*Nederländska
while i'm at it. i can't believe germans and dutch people really will call a library a “bookery”* like that's normal and not a silly name someone would make up for their hipster bookstore/pub/café
* boekerij, Bücherei
@hikari Dutch for library is 'bibliotheek', it's like a discotheque but for books!
@Tijn every good language calls it a Bibliothek so that one doesn't stand out to me, though it is funny that discotheque came from it. it makes you imagine a library filled with vinyl discs
@hikari Back when VHS was still a thing, we called video rental places a "videotheek" too 😅
@Tijn (1970's voice) in the future, we will get software from the floppydiskotheek
(2000's voice) in the future, we will watch movies from the Blu-ray Discotheek
@hikari I'm sorry but I have to because I'll never learn how to write Bibliothek
@hikari Then again “libra-ry” is just “bookery” but they used Latin instead of English for no good reason.
