jump to expanded posttouchHLE is such a huge burden I've taken on for myself. I'm not sure what to do with it. I did want to spend the next six months doing what I can to get like, idk, a hundred different old iPhone OS apps working and preservable, but there's so many other things I'd also like to do with my life, and… I don't know
the personal costs to me from this project are, suffice to say, larger than they might appear on the surface
having to become an ANGLE maintainer fills me with dread. writing my own ANGLE replacement fills me with dread. I do not have a Mac powerful enough to build a Google project
the goal slipped from “Android release in April” to “Android release in May” to “Android release in June”…
@hikari I would recommend not feeling any obligation to get it working on android and just focusing on the most fulfilling part of getting more games booting

a Google employee might make it work on Android for you without you ever having to think about it
@hikari hi, please remember that “you don’t have to”.
(you can choose to, if you want, but you are not obligated to do this thing. even if you previously said you would. especially since you already shared the source, so someone else could pick it up, but even if you hadn’t.)
@hikari you've gotten so much done and improved the situation so drastically already. even if you just dropped it on the floor tomorrow and did something else, it's still way better than where you started.
open source projects are really bad about defining bad boundaries for you if you let them. take care of yourself and have some rest/do other stuff <3
@hikari I love the project and want to see it succeed but focusing on your well-being is a lot more important.
You’ve made one of the most impressive things I’ve seen in a while and something that I considered impossible for a long time (especially coming mostly from one person!).
That being said, if something else fulfils you more, there is absolutely no obligation/judgement if you decide to pursue that instead! This is coming from a person with like 10 unfinished side projects 😉
@hikari@social.noyu.me you are a volunteer hacker, anyone who pretends that leads to any obligation can go eat shit, including your inner critic if that's the case
you have the freedom at any time to take a break, or not; to come back to it later, or not.
but I understand. I struggle with that dilemma a lot myself, especially nowadays... good luck
@hikari Wow 🤩 this is the approach I've been wanting to see forever for running all user-hostile-device apps, not just preserving oldschool ones. I know that's way out of scope for your project but what you're doing is exciting in itself and I hope it'll inspire others on the merits of this way.
