jump to expanded posthave you ever wanted an 88-key usb midi controller that you can just fold up and take with you?
well: https://carryonplaying.com/product/carry-on-folding-piano/
i couldn't resist temptation and now own the 2nd generation touch-sensitive model, and it's quite interesting! i'll write a review of it at some point
here's something you won't learn from the site: the keys on this thing are exactly like on a computer laptop keyboard. if you can imagine a musical keyboard made entirely out of space bars, that's exactly what it feels and sounds like. it's, good, though. they feel good.
they're touch-sensitive keys though! like, different midi velocity is transmitted depending on how hard you hit them. when you play them hard it sounds like you're typing furiously. it's fun.
it is actually a standalone keyboard, not just a controller: it has two speakers, a built-in rechargeable battery, comes with a sustain pedal, and there's 120-ish built-in instrument voices. but the voices aren't very good and it somehow violates the general midi spec lmao
but i got it for the midi controller function, of course, and so far i'm having a blast with it. i have only had it for a few hours, it must be said.
i was not paid to say this. (i wish i was, the product deserves more attention. hence me wanting to write a review.)
