i think certain children's media have such enduring appeal with adults because they have this earnest joy to them that the adult world tries to suppress
“why do you like anime, isn't that [usually] for kids?”
it's made by adults who are proud of their work, and because it's “for kids”, they're allowed to make it joyful.
adults write stories about kids because we feel that kids are allowed to dream
