jump to expanded postsomeone please recreate the cd-i zelda "this peace is what all true warriors strive for" scene in live action, but when it zooms in on the king's face like it's nothing, do a dolly zoom. because that's what the source material demands. dolly zooms. dolly zooms everywhere
animation magic were something else, man. those cd-i zelda animations, those i.m. meen animations, they break rule nobody else would break, they're cheesy, but from an animation point of view they're also damn impressive in some ways. feel sorry for people trying to imitate them
these thoughts brought to you by me rewatching the trailer for "arzette: the jewel of faramore", which is a loving attempt to imitate that style, and it gets some of the way there, but like, maybe they just didn't have the budget to get all the way? it's not cheap or easy!
i am not an animator but i can appreciate just how difficult and time-consuming it is to maintain a consistently high framerate where every. single. frame. is completely redrawn by hand, and contains significant character or camera motion. ai models still can't do this right btw!
the cd-i zelda games are art.
@hikari just reminds me of the thing I love in many of the Ghlibli films where *everything* in frame is animated with the foreground at a high rate and the background at a low frame rate
@hikari feels like impressionism when all the plants are fluttering gently in the wind at like 2Hz
