64kbps mp3 sounds way better than i thought it would??? so long as there's no cymbals it actually sounds fine???
@hikari try that with the Fraunhofer IIS encoder from 1994 :D
... codecs really have come a long way :)
@hikari I remember listening to somebody's shoutcast station years ago at 24 kbps, and it was quite ok.
@hikari I did this experiment with flac music I bought on bandcamp. Expected to hear some loss in 320kbps, was disappointed I couldn't even tell 128 vs 192. There is also an online test like "are you ready for high bitrate?" that A/B tests you and I failed it. Otherwise I even have a very good ear, and still!
@hikari there’s a reason cymbals and sibilant sound so similar
@hikari Yeah it's kinda amazing how much better encoders are these days.
