jump to expanded posttrying to make music is making me relate a bit to generative ai models, the ones that βhallucinateβ. if i pick some kind of genre, i can imagine and hear in my head a whole song, which i've probably never heard before, and i cannot tell you what memories it was synthesised from
now, there are a great many songs i actually have heard before, reinforced in my memory by repeated listening, and i can tell you about those for sure. but there's also a space of things i'm unsure about. these imagined songs become memories, which contributes to this.
it's actually annoying how many imagined songs have become firm memories because i've thought about them too much, because the firmness makes me think i've heard them before, and i haven't, they originated in my head and have never left it
