today in “anything but building new infrastructure”: apparently deutsche telekom will sell you a router that connects to DSL and LTE simultaneously to provide higher speeds. that's super neat, but you know what would be even better? fiber
incredible product though ngl. no idea if it actually works but this is such a good concept
@hikari it's extremely common in underserviced areas here when it comes to internet, it definitely works even if the speed leaves much to be desired, obviously
@hikari So they gonna invest in LTE / 5G infrastructure to be able to handle the additional load right?
@hikari Telia used to sell that kind of thing here as well, except it required a contraption of two very specific routers and had all sorts of downsides – apparently it could only do TCP, everything else was DSL-only... never tried it, ended up going LTE-only. I think they stopped selling it once they realized it's not worth the complexity.
