jump to expanded postamerican friends, is five guys like a normally priced chain in the us because every time i've seen it in europe it's cost literally twice as much as normal fast food and the walls are plastered with american testimonials to convince you that €25 is worth it for the luxury
also why are the fries so Goddamn Salty
@hikari canadian, but still
five guys is "premium" fast food. more expensive than "normal" fast food, but (supposedly) cheaper than a sit-in full service restaurant.
in practice, you can pay a couple of dollars more and get a proper sit-in experience in many places. the actual food quality is kinda mid.
in short: yes, it is overpriced for what you get.
@hikari I was going to say it’s expensive but not that much, but then I’ve realized that it’s because I’ve been confused by California food prices and haven’t been to one since moving. Looks like they’re a $15 meal in Michigan but over $25 in California. That’s still not double but it’s like +50%
@hikari as others have said five guys is like "a little on the high end for fast food", but food prices are unpredictable across the board right now
@mcc @hikari Hank Green also did a video on five guys pricing a little while ago, and it’s just hard to compare in general because their “default” burger is significantly bigger than most fast food burgers
so it’s really easy to go “I could get a McDouble combo for less” when a McDouble is half the size of the burger you ordered from five guys
@hikari (not American but) all those wall testimonials are from like 20 years ago
@hikari Hank Green did the math. (Yes, Five Guys is pricey, but if you go with friends/family and split the big items, like large fries and big burgers, it's competitive.) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3u04LYvGQjw
