hot take: vc-backed startups that make their core product open source are great actually. at some point the investors realise you can't make enough money and force you to close it, but who cares. in the meantime you made a great addition to our collective software inheritance

the trick of course is building a project that won't immediately lose its usefulness if $$$$$$$$ aren't been thrown at maintaining it. you definitely cannot build a web browser engine this way
