have spent maybe my entire adult life dreaming that i'd be able to capture 3d spaces with some utopian 3d vr thing and now i'm like. no you idiot you can just record video. put a huge cheap microsd card in your potatophone and start recording video. video is magical

these words are only for myself, to be clear. but
shoot video of things that don't move. shoot video of things that don't change. shoot video in terrible lighting conditions, in terrible audio conditions, with terrible equipment. shoot video at incomprehensible angles with an eye that wanders into fantasy. shoot video, damnit

you thought you could never convey the whole space? yes, you can't, and you never will, but 60 photos per second will make it so much easier
you can't bring the fog back, but you can take someone on a journey through it, and maybe they'll find themselves there
it's already reaped its dividends. my banner image on twitter and fedi (not on the sky website, ironically) is a composite of two frames from the day i leaned on the edge of the sky. never, never, could i have captured that with a photo
