jump to expanded posthaving the ability hear certain high frequencies still can suck, every now and then i will get really annoyed by being able to hear the coil whine from some electronic device and have to spend a long time unplugging everything until i eliminate it
i had to stop using apple keyboards over this
if any of you live in like, the EU, and would like a Apple Magic Keyboard with Numpad in the Apple-style ISO layout with Arabic keycaps, and don't have super sensitive high-frequency hearing, i'd happily send you my old keyboard. it's a dual bluetooth/USB keyboard
@hikari Honestly that sounds like it would perfectly fit into my mister setup, even if I end up hearing the whine I wouldnβt mind because Iβm using the the mister at my crt, which itself already has a horrible whine that Iβm just accepting because thatβs what we did as kids too ^^
@KurisuVanEdge mister?
@hikari the mister fpga, that open source hardware emulator board that recently got a new clone that isn't 500β¬.
I'd mostly use it for console gaming but it also supports a ton of older PC cores, so having a keyboard for that would be nice.

@KurisuVanEdge one disadvantage is apple's keycode usage is a bit weird, but maybe you could fix this with configuration
@hikari how weird are we talking?
Because if it's just a few special characters I don't think I'll mind
I'm already typing Japanese on my German keyboard which is not supported by Microsoft IME unless I meddle in the registry all the time which got so annoying that I started just living with the mismatched inputs ^^
@KurisuVanEdge oh i mean stuff like the scancodes assigned to the extra function keys at a hardware level. it's probably fixable in software!
@KurisuVanEdge you're free to use whatever layout you want obviously
@hikari ah I see, thanks for clarifying
yeah I'd have to see what I can do about that, but depending on the core it's probably all manually mappable
@hikari if it's only one ear, sometimes rotating your head, including up and down, while listening from place to place can help isolate things much faster
