unfortunately this is actually a natural and sometimes even good thing. the brain adapts to its environment. how do you tell the difference between someone with paranoid delusions and someone who has well-motivated persecutory fears? you can't, they're the same person
a bit of a tangent but it's messed up how people with [conditions associated with paranoid delusions] are more likely to be correct in their paranoia by virtue of having [conditions associated with paranoid delusions]. if formulated snappily it'd sound like a joke. it's not
i mean they're also more likely to be incorrect, presumably. that's the problem
