jump to expanded postactually quite a lot of problems for me can be solved by simply buying more music i think i will keep doing this it's fun
if i really like some song by some unfamiliar artist and buy the album
- now i don't have to deal with the misery of the youtube experience
- i am making a financial-emotional commitment to understanding them more, and can no longer forget i had an interest in them
- more songs!
i think the most important to me is that it's very good for my memory? everything i stream gets lost with the other short-term memories unless i playlist it, and even then it's so disorganised. adding something to my library turns the waypoint into a milestone on the path of life
‪it's not really the exchange of money that is the key thing here, but the acquisition of and commitment to the music album as an object (be it digital or physical) rather than transiently available streaming of songs‬
‪one of my favourite features of itunes is it has a view that sorts albums by when you added them to your library. i can scroll back through it and see at a glance the different musical eras of my life‬
‪i haven't figured out how to deal with video game music though. that's rarely released as proper albums and rarely works as an album even if it has been packaged in the form of one. maybe i need a different strategy for collecting that‬
@hikari I have, multiple times, listened to one track from an artist and then bought their entire discography for 50% off on bandcamp
I recommend this experience
@demize oh my god
@hikari sometimes it’s only like $50 for someone’s entire discography and I like having lots of music
