jump to expanded postguitar where the strings are replaced with long thin metal tubes that are capacitative touch sensing surfaces and some kind of cursed electronics interpret the touches in the fret area as fretting and below that as strumming or picking somehow. solid-state, headless and tailless
what's fucked up is this might actually make sense
you probably wouldn't be able to bend strings sideways which would be sad, but it could actually be a damn functional guitar simulation otherwise, and surely a more practical way to make a guitar midi controller than a hexaphonic setup, hmm
i'm thinking of the various apple products that have literally fake buttons, a surface that does not depress but which has good enough pressure and touch sensing it can simulate that well. if you could do that over the whole surface of a guitar-shaped thing…
“long thin metal tubes” in other words, strings, just, mounted in such a way that they can't move
@hikari Vaguely reminds me of the thing Laurie Anderson did once, where she strung a violin with recording tape (like from a cassette) and built a special bow with a read-head for it?
@adrienne holy shit
@hikari ...actually i think it's vice-versa, i think the tape is on the bow and the violin has read-heads? I don't 100% remember. Anyway, though: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sFh4UpBmo-Y
