jump to expanded post"guitar" is insane because it appears to be one of the most dangerously versatile instruments with the potential to lose your entire life to exploring it but it is exclusively taken up by literal turbonormies who unorinically want to play "clocks by coldplay" and basically get oneshotted by it

@hikari I believe that all art is a negotiation between a human and a machine. This is the case even for art that appears to have no "machine" involved. The instrument or the medium always has something it "wants" which may differ from the thing the human wants. If you are using a drum machine, it wants to make 4-on-the-floor techno. Anything that deviates from this, you will feel a "gravity" back to that local maximum. Local attempts to improve will feel worse

@hikari I do believe the guitar has similar local maximums that have gravity. The guitar wants you to make simple 4-chord songs. You can push away from the local maximum trying to find a better local maximum but the temptation to make that 4 chord coldplay song will be so *seductive*
@mcc i think i understand what you're saying! i've felt that gravity a lot with the existing musical tools i've tried to use. it really makes me wonder how anyone manages only knowing a single instrument
