the vox amplug3 series of tiny headphone amps for guitars have a cute feature where the “aux in” 3.5mm jack isn't just TRS but actually TRRS, returning the output via the same cable, so if you plug it into a smartphone, it shows up like a headset and you can record the amp output

unfortunately, my macbook, which should in theory support this (it supports the mic on apple's own 3.5mm earphones, and uses the same wiring standard), refuses to recognise it as having a mic when i connect a TRRS cable. :(

at least it works with my old broken USB-C hub's jack

@hikari I did wonder when I saw other posts about not getting a computer audio interface and choosing an alt solution if you were going with the smartphone headphone amp

I briefly looked into the same myself but figured I'm not likely to be going on adventures with guitar gig bag on my back, needing to groove while travelling - but that did sound *very you*
