jump to expanded postoh god the united states is toast
i would like to apologise for my brief period of wishful thinking where i overestimated the resilience of the us institutions
‪extremely alarmed by the realisation they have seemingly given musk the executive and technical power to coup random federal agencies out of existence, and if he's smart he could sabotage attempts to stop him. but maybe the deep state guys with guns will do it if it comes to that‬
FUCK I THOUGHT MY BRAIN MIGHT BE GOING TOO FAST AND I WAS MAKING LEAPS BUT MY WORST FEARS ARE ACTUALLY CORRECT AAAAAAA
‪oh god i think i understand part of the mechanism of how this happened due to prior autistic interests. might have to do some minor research about this later‬
@hikari hey can you cw this shit please
uspol, high-speed financial coup
@hikari that's the executive fully trampling the congressional power of the purse
i suppose the problem with thinking that way, though, is that they may not stop trying until they're stopped physically (and passing articles in this congress gives more than enough time)
That's the thing I never understood about MAGA sorts: America was never Great.
At best it was: "towards a more perfect union".
Even after WWII, when US Occupied Japan wrote the Japanese Constitution, the intractable flaws within the US Government were deeply understood, so much so that the individuals (who were Americans) who foisted the Japanese Constitution on their population, did so with efforts to mitigate some of the known vulnerabilities.
Hence: why it is a parliamentary system as just one example.
IIRC, I think the Japanese Constitution also guarantees the right to employment for those who desire it? Among its other provisions.
TL;DR if Americans who were creating legislation, already were writing new legislation for countries conquered by the USA in the 20th century, that didn't have some of the same pitfalls as the USA had and still has in the 21st century, why would anyone ever imagine that the USA could sit on its laurels?
"Get busy living, or get busy dying." ー Shawshank Redemption.
Doesn't just apply to prisoners.
Doubly so if you are unfortunate enough to be born in a country where carceral slavery is still sanctioned.
If the USA actually collapses? It's probably long overdue.
Though as Immortal Technique has warned; the vacuum of power and those nation states who are likely to try to fill it are going to be much much worse.
@hikari I know this is from cross-posting, but un-CW'd uspol is *especially* verboten on Fedi at the moment
Please can you redraft with CW or start crossposting from Fedi to bsky in a way that lets you set CWs?
@saagar yes
