side note: i wanted to double-check that they were indeed combining stereotypes from different ends of The Orient just in case, and… turns out the variety of oil lamp designs is not something i could quickly find high-quality information for in english online. depressing tbh

@hikari two things can be true at once:
- exoticizing via stereotypes (such as orientalism) can be harmful and unpleasant
- people subject to said exoticizing can and will happily lean into it sometimes
