so my girlfriend is actually a Rhythm Gamer (😔) and she has some guitar hero controllers from back when those were a thing and oh my god look at this thing it is so Small it is Baby it is so Tinyyyy it's so cute it's overriding my underlying sadness at it not being an instrument
especially funny the way it has an analog stick and a compartment on the back so you can put a wiimote in it
shame that guitar hero looks boring as hell even by rhythm game standards
okay i apologise to guitar hero i just tried out playing a bit of one of the better guitar hero games (rock band 2) and the two-hand co-ordination gimmick makes it more fun than it looks and i have a much easier time playing if i engage guitarist brain not rhythm gamer brain(!)
my girlfriend was surprised that moving up and down the fretboard (guitarist brain) was easier and more fun for me when playing on medium difficulty than keeping all four fingers on the buttons (keyboardist or rhythm gamer brain), imo it says something about how my brain is wired
(the other element is that i have to remember to keep the “chords” held between “strums”. it's such a weird experience to play a rhythm game and me having played rhythm games before actually being a disadvantage)
i became convinced that design of guitar hero controllers makes the game unfun for me since i'm used to real guitar. too tiny, wrong fret spacing, no strings
decided to try to pretend play guitar hero bass on my actual guitar (on five frets + one string) and IT'S SO MUCH EASIER
i'm extremely excited to try rock band 3 pro mode (real guitar 17 frets + 6 strings) now once i get the squier because even though it's supposedly a lot more difficult than the normal mode (fake guitar 5 fret buttons + 1 strum bar) i think it'll actually be a lot easier for me
(easier insofar as i think it'll be easier to play the lowest difficulty pro mode bass than to play the equivalent difficulty normal mode bass, despite the former being more involved)
@hikari have you tried or know about Rocksmith? It came with a USB audio dongle for the PS3 where you would plug you own, real, electric guitar. That's it.
@aperezdc i haven't played it but i am quite aware of it. i'll probably try it eventually. i just have unusual circumstances that make rock band 3 particularly interesting to me
@hikari have you found out about the Rock Band 3 102-button guitar controller yet?
