buying sensitive in-ear monitor earphones has been ideologically devastating. i have totally flipped from believing the 3.5mm jack on consumer electronics is sacred to believing it must die, because i've discovered that the amplifiers on all my consumer devices suck ;_;
even my beloved 6th gen ipod nano… even you… you all betray me :(
@hikari so far my cIEMs have sounded amazing in everything I’ve plugged them into but I haven’t plugged them into much that’s not good (and also they sound amazing period so)
@hikari the curse of having high standards is that the normal makes you unhappy now
@hikari this is particularly amusing given that modern apple devices have some of the best DACs and amps available on mass-market consumer hardware, but of course only the ones that have 3.5mm jacks at all!
@hikari and especially ironically, the best USB-C DAC you can buy (for anything short of very high-power headphones that need a particularly beefy amp, anyway) is likely apple's $9 dongle
