feel like lack of context has really held back my music taste for a long time, you cannot build a music taste on isolated bangers randomly plucked from the ocean of all recorded music by the curatorial hand, human or not; you need to build a relationship with an artist or scene
in this respect i think the algorithmic recommendations might be a very bad thing for music
that's not to say that stumbling upon random unfamiliar things that inspire you is bad, but they're just seeds, they must be planted and watered and nurtured into full trees to really bring you the full benefit. a box of a thousand different seeds does not a garden make
