jump to expanded postmy gf has never seen evangelion and i haven't seen it in 13 years (back when i was also a useless teenage boy), we're gonna (re)watch it, let's goooo
can't believe they just put the famous song cruel angel's thesis as the op smh
this is so hard to go into without preconceptions good lord what a culturally prominent series even if i hadn't seen it before
anime lost something when it went digital huh. film…
oh god i'm laughing at the shinji torture at the start of episode 2 this isn't good
i can't help myself but find so many things funny this is really unexpected
also captivated by just how pretty everything is, though. film…
anyway it turns out that 13 years later, now being a dysfunctional adult woman in her late 20's with a friend group composed of the same, rather than a useless teenage boy, i'm suddenly far more interested in misato. oh god. misato
also i know i am watching with the benefit of massive amounts of hindsight but oh my god fucking Everything is foreshadowed this show is really quite clear about what it is from the first episode i think
THEY MENTION THE HEDGHOG'S DILEMMA ALREADY AT THE START OF THE THIRD EPISODE?!
honk if u like Super Digital Audio Tape
Ikari-kun über dem Nebelmeer
everything is just so pretty
having just finished evangelion ep4 i'm just in awe at the cinematography of it all
it really is a classic
the series lives and breathes in a way a modern digital one-cour show could never it's making me tear up
was evangelion always this incredibly pretty what the fuck
also currently dealing with the weird mental space of having accidentally switched to swedish subtitles now
it was very funny when someone literally saying “shit” (someone who contextually probably isn't japanese) was subtitled as ”fan” even though ”shit” is frequently used in swedish lmao
there's so many iconic shots in episodes 8 and 9 though they probably feel iconic to me just because of how many times i've watched that one rammstein engel evangelion amv https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tIcOIc7AFww
i have to say that like, of the things i've tried to rewatch so far, evangelion might be the hardest to really … escape the cultural shadow of. it's not just that i've seen it before. it's that everyone has seen it before. it's that it's so deafeningly influential and well-known
madoka is not a lesser show for knowing what's about to happen, if anything it's stronger. haruhi is… something i have a unique relationship with. but evangelion? evangelion is The Anime, and it's just so inescapable. the cinematography is hitting me, but i'm kind of detached
though this is also affected by the fact i'm not watching it alone, perhaps
Why are they putting asuka in the OceanGate Titan ;_; i'm fairly sure she doesn't die in this episode but this is perhaps the most terrifying thing so far
“hikari, uh, i have looked up Facts on Wikipedia, Redmond is only 16 metres above sea level, it would not have survived the Second Impact,” (gf just now)
THEY ACTUALLY SAY “DWORD” IN THE DIALOGUE IT'S NOT JUST THE VISUALS fjdjfjdkslld
@Rairii what gives it away?
@hikari int 21h
@Rairii oh yeah! i should've spotted that
@hikari I didn't realize you could run Windows on a PLATO IV terminal 😁
@hikari honestly it’s a lot better than most non-Windows GUI toolkits anyway
It’s just the types
The cursed types
@hikari *very reverent voice*
that's what she said 😌
