christ i can play the vocal line of this entire song fluently on the high E string without thinking about it, i guess i must have idly “practiced” a tiny part of it before, but most of this is clearly just because it's one of my favourite songs and it has a very memorable melody

christ can i actually in some meaningful sense play guitar by ear??? fuck this might be the first time in six months of playing the instrument that i start to feel like i can actually play it, if i had gotten three hours less sleep i would be crying

need to not completely lose my mind over this before i finish figuring it out but holy shit

it's one thing being able to play random “easy guitar songs” but i don't have an emotional connection to Smonk on de Water, this is a completely different story, it's in my top 5

i'm having a fun time figuring out the chord progression by ear. music theory is useless here, it's in your fingers and your ears. it seems to be something that has very naturally flowing fretboard finger movement. i wonder if it was not so much “written” as it was stumbled upon

god i love the electric guitar

i'm having such a good time in part because my signal chain happened to already be set up perfectly for this song. i am not a tonechaser but i do wonder if they used vaguely similar equipment to me…

oh right there's also a BOSS SD-1 between the guitar and the DS-1 but it's inactive and presumably them both being BOSS pedals and BOSS always putting buffers in their pedals means that we can ignore it

if i'm going on a mass of the fermenting dregs arc then i think my semi-impulsive choice to get the special edition hh tele with the sunny flamed maple top finally makes sense to me, it's the right colour of music

it's important to look after the colour associations even if you don't have synæsthesia… maybe

narasaki is still my hero but narasaki music is not orange generally speaking

local idiot is very smug about having figured out the chords to a favourite song by ear without ever having read tablature for any song, conveniently overlooking that refusing to engage with notation means this is the first non-parallel non-dyad progression she has ever learned

(in my defence i did try, i just hit a brick wall early on with the first song i tried to figure out, so all i have to show for it is knowing one (1) shiny arpeggio, and then i never got round to trying a different guitar song until this accident happened!)
