orange/yellow: cleans or lightly distorted chords, telecastic
red: stratocaster, heavy distortion
yellow (slightly desatured): certain jazz timbres and textures, especially vibraphones
blue: the kind of melancholy of sazabi + water bird
green/tourquoise: electronic
purple: house

dark gray to black: metal
these last three are the most tenuous. also, colour associations are usually a bit more specific than just a hue, often it applies to particular shade of that hue
