started watching girls band cry with my gf, currently paused half way through the first episode, christ this show had so much potential, it felt it pulling at my chest a few times already, gods… could easily make someone cry

that synæsthesia segment, the dynamic between the two of them, it's pulling so hard at my heart strings

also this is the best usage of obviously-3dcg 3dcg in an anime i've ever seen holy shit

oh and her parents are pieces of shit in a very cruelly familiar way (not familiar first-hand but i sure have a thing for second-hand trauma huh)

momoka's guitar is sooo cool too goshhh

watched girls band cry episode 2, this show is going from strength to strength. nina is a deeply relatable character and her portrayal is perfect. they really nailed the pathos

but you've done something wrong when the only guitar parts that sound right in your band anime are nondiegetic background music

i really really like girls band cry as an animation and as a story so far, iseri nina is in her entire portrayal a character that feels like an attack, i want to believe so bad, and i do, but episode 3 also lines up a musical emotional slamdunk and then Completely misses the shot

it actually takes effort to mess this up this badly. she's wound up and raging to go and then they somehow cut in a song at a quieter volume than anything else in the episode. even if it weren't overproduced in the wrong ways, they fucked up with just how they set the gain?????

they line up this emotional slamdunk. the bit where it just Hits. you're expecting the hit. anyone who's seen a music anime before or anything similar understands the filmmaking grammar going on here. it's supposed to hit. for a few seconds you think maybe it's just delayed. Nope

girls band cry episode 4 was good too, this show goes from strength to strength in the visual direction and story

oh my god the animating thing (not in the sense of cartoon but in the sense of plot) in episode 5 is perfect

togenashi togeari clearly have, much like lily chou-chou, access to the ether, because clearly the acoustic space they perform live in isn't the actual fucking live house

(that's our girls band cry episode 7 remark, we will never shut up about this because, even if we were primed for it by good friends pointing it out, we are in fact familiar with what concerts sound like and what practice sessions sound like and somehow the show producers aren't)

FINALLY, GIRLS BAND CRY EPISODE 8, THE THING LONG AWAITED, it's peak

is it just us or is there nothing particularly wrong with nina's guitar playing, it's just not very exciting
