“photographic memory” would be too strong a claim but i think my memory of music is far more precise than my memory of photos
specifically it has been a frequent experience for me lately that i am made aware of some feature of music i was not previously paying attention to, and then i notice it in my memories of music, without relistening
relatedly on the apple scale of aphantasia i would say i see the full apple for music but a murky impression of an apple with spots of detail for images
relatedly i find it relatively easy to imagine an arrangement of a song with completely different instruments, though the actual precision of this imagining is questionable, i really need to see if the chords in those would withstand scrutiny…
hmm i suspect the precision of my musical memory is illusory; often i do actually misremember the timbre of something or even the notes, and my brain is just hallucinating/confabulating something that fits equally well in the same space. still, it feels like listening for real
