jump to expanded postit took me more than half a year of owning an electric guitar but i finally got to the place i ought to have been one month in: finding random chord shapes i like and turning them into chord progressions by ear, either original ones or ones recreating familiar songs
progress is a funny thing, i can't always force it, sometimes there's some weird emotional blocker or mindset problem or whatever that will just take a while to resolve itself
the upside of things going in this particular order is that in the meantime i have ended up with a fantastically well set-up and easy-to-play electric guitar, an amp i enjoy using, a pedalboard i enjoy using, a recording setup i enjoy using, a workflow for song transcription, etc
i have incrementally fixed all the little things that got in the way of โactually just playing the goddamn guitarโ and gotten very used to holding the instrument, and in this respect the time was not at all wasted. hell i even managed to learn an entire songโฆ's bass part
as a wise friend put it, every choice on the guitar journey finds its meaning
