@hikari I remember reading a thing a few years ago claiming that f2p games were all putting in "combine 5 copies of the +1 sword to get a +2 sword" mechanics for accounting reasons specifically. Idea was if you spent money on a +1 sword and you keep if then they kinda have to recognise the revenue for that as averaged over the entire expected lifespan of your account. But if you spent money on a +1 sword and then destroyed that sword then they could recognise the revenue as soon as you destroyed it because at that point you've finished getting use of if it.
