good news: while the “little a magical thinking as a treat” did in fact rob us of the full night of good sleep (gee who would have thought), it didn't rob us of all of it and our body gave us a chance to undo it, and we now have gotten maybe half a night of good sleep instead!

and we now feel more “normal” in some indescribable way. not fully normal, not well-rested, we need a lot more rest still, but something feels better, it's a good sign.
