jump to expanded postI think we might blast through a quick rewatch of Koimonogatari. It is after all, in Kanbaru-chan's opinion anyway, βpeakβ.
has anyone considered that Hanekawa might be the only Monogatari character who has watched Monogatari. maybe that's why she knows, well, not everything, but,
the way the nadeko shrine is literally glowing feels significant
have rewatched the first half of it now
stop the fucking presses, the girl who famously says "I don't know everything, I only know what I know" is saying there is a woman who does in fact know everything
"Do you swear to God?"
"I swear to Cat."
"Isn't it because words aren't trustworthy? The moment you speak something, it gets disconnected from your feelings. Words are all lies. They're a sham. No matter how true something is, it gets dramatized the moment you speak of it."
"If you have to truly wish for something, if you truly want to just wish for something, you should never put that wish into words."
Kaiki is probably the wisest Monogatari character, which is a bitter thing to type.
to us, koimonogatari especially does not feel like a story about the supernatural. it feels like a story about something quite mundane, something that we unfortunately lived through. and this line, in particular, is very cutting:
there are truths that a month and a half of psychosis wrung out of our heart that we would never have dared to tell anyone at all otherwise, and the worst of them all was a dream we never could admit having to ourselves
"Don't speak [negatively] of your own creations [...]. Literary creations are inherently embarrassing. Dreams aren't much different. Nothing can be done about it. It is what it is. But at the very least, you're not supposed to deride them yourself."

oh my fucking GOD the lie kaiki pulls out right once you-know-who shows up. incredible
we had completely forgotten how kaiki completely owns araragi-senpai at the end of koimonogatari. utterly brutal and necessary smackdown. hilarious to watch really
it's peak
