this video is suggesting that internal optical drives (CD-ROM/DVD/Blu-ray drives designed to be built into PC cases) are no longer being manufactured. i hope that's not true, but it is not that implausible and quite sad https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HTNCYrLEezA
i think external optical drives (like, with a USB cable) will stick around for longer, but one impact of this is that 4K UHD Blu-ray drives will no longer be something you can buy new, period...
@hikari External USB drives are an internal drive in a case, aren't they?
@hikari I’d seen a little bit about this and it had sounded like some of the claims might be slightly exaggerated… I don’t see what the sources are though so I’m not 100% sure.
@misty one thing that concerns me is the video shows screenshots of a chatbot, and to me it looks like they may be confusing an LLM doing the sycophant thing for an actual customer service agent statement
