jump to expanded postcurrently doing the world's quickest and most half-assed macOS-to-Linux migration so we won't have to bring two laptops with us to 39C3
as frustrating as the install process was, Debian 13 “trixie“ is really quite nice. it's like our familiar old Ubuntu but without the fucking Snaps, and the default desktop background (at least for GNOME Flashback) is very comforting
oh sick Debian speaks Bonjour mDNS out of the box so I can just do ssh hikari@yumewatari.local from the MacBook, yaay

okay, I ran sudo apt install ibus-mozc and now I can type 平仮名やカンジやkatakanaや全角ローマ字, phew
the Anki folks went to the bother of writing a dedicated tool to launch and run Anki on Linux!

but not to fear. Win32 is the stable Linux ABI!
…and in WINE it does at least start, but then it hits a vkd3d shader compiler bug so it immediately crashes ;_;
okay the Linux version just needed a sudo apt install libxcb-cursor0 to fix it, but the cool thing is that you can only see the warning about this the second time you attempt to run it (the first will fail silently), and only if you run it from a terminal. sigh
