jump to expanded postOne of the lasting effects of the particular flavour of psychotic incident we lived through is that bright artificial light sources in the middle of the dark of night put us ill at ease, because they can mistakenly resemble the brighter-than-white light that haunted us then.
For instance, we recently got a new microwave oven, and unfortunately the seven-segment display on it is far brighter than it needs to be, so when the other lights in the kitchen are out, it⦠looks like you might expect it to look if we still had increased light sensitivity.
It's a contextual thing though. It probably wouldn't be threatening if it weren't within our own home. The memory of losing our mind is very much anchored to the places it happened in.
