jump to expanded post“didn't you say you wanted a 5-string”
yes! but
- i do not want to buy a tactile instrument i can't put my hands on
- 5-string necks are So Wide, So Heavy
- it turns out you can, in a pinch, downtune the lowest string to hell. it is floppy but it lets us scratch the itch enough
lmao we have unbought a bass (4-string) because someone we would trust with our life told us that it would be, quote, "suicidal" to keep a brand new instrument with a particular problem this one had, so well I guess it'll have to be some other time
owned a squier cv 70's jazz bass for exactly two hours AMA
@hikari ..... what was the problem leading to the unbuying?
@joyces evidence that the wood had not dried enough when the guitar was manufactured and thus all the fret tangs along the bass side of the neck were pushing on the binding causing obvious bulging
@hikari ooof yeah that does not sound good. when i got my MiM 2025 fender jazz i looked over a few of the same model and took the one with the most even fret ends
@joyces sweetwater?
@hikari seattle guitar center big box store
@hikari this gal here
@joyces oh gosh i'm envious of the colour
@hikari that is the guitar center exclusive blue flamed-maple finish, i love it to death. had to have it once i learned about it
@joyces oh same, we've seen an image of… if it's not that one it's a very similar one and really wanted it
@hikari yeah that's the promo shot of this model yeah, each one looks pretty unique afaict, they're not all that dramatic aha
@hikari the color shifts a lot in the light, too. rather difficult to capture in a photograph
@joyces as we'd expect from a flamed maple top! the one on our main guitar is very particular about light too
@hikari yeahhhhhhh the finish on yours is gorgeous from what i have seen of it
@joyces oh right you folks have guitar center over there!
@hikari it's a pretty impersonal place and i prefer going to smaller shops when i can but sometimes it's the best option. i spend more time over at the local shop where i take lessons
