jump to expanded posti'm sure you'll all be as disappointed as me to find out that the girl inside that box isn't araragi-senpai, let alone senjougahara-senpai… maybe i wish it was but— anyway
ohh! she's veiled! to preserve her modesty and innocence… like a wedding dress… an incredibly enticing image… ahh… i'm moved… my heart flutters…
ohh… she was so light… about as heavy as senjougahara-senpai was when she still had the weightlessness crab… be still my beating heart…
gently running my fingers over the strings… r-respectfully… oh gosh i love her
out of the box she's way out of tune; the low E string is 3 semitones below standard, the A string is 2 semitones below, etc. gave her a wonderfully dark tone acoustically for those first few notes
oh this really is a virgin neck and virgin strings, tuning her up is requiring more iteration than i'm used to. aah. her first time huh. is that… really okay for me to…
oh hang on that high E string has quite noticeable corrosion on it. that might be a factor. has she sat unloved in her box this long… i'm glad i could… make her happy…
wanted my first recording from this thing to be a certain lead melody and spent a while struggling to learn it, but then i accidentally just got intoxicated by how chords sound through jazzmaster-voiced pickups holy shit
not a great recording i know but there is a reason i wanted to buy one after trying the one they had at bax amsterdam through our headphone amp pedal (not what this is recorded with here), goddamn
fuck i love how this neck feels and how this thing feels to sit down with
3.27kg!!! that's a little lighter than our tele (3.38kg)! kanbaru suruga (well… hikari達, but you know) has won the guitar weight lottery this time…
god unless there's something Catastrophically wrong with this unit there's no way i'm sending it back. i'd pay for a fret level
ahhhh if my ears do not deceive me, this thing has a hollow area under the pick guard, like a strat? i love the resonance that gives it! we've long noticed the difference between the solid body on our (unusual gibson-esque) tele and the hollow (by comparison) body on our strat…
oh yeah i also want to say i like how the pickup select switch on this feels soft when actuating it rather than… clicky? clanky? i'm comparing against the one on our tele (which is an SE FMT HH tele, so like on this J3, it's a les paul-type switch than a traditional tele slider)
jazzmaster intoxication… it can happen to you…
JAZZMASTER PICKUP GO CLANK CRUNCH CLANK
sheesh we were not expecting to fall more in love with the thing once we could play one at home on our own equipment. we have a bad history with kinda… pushing ourselves to like stuff that we try in music stores. we were expecting this could well be a disappointment
seriously a jazzmaster through a vox is like sex
i wanna record some of my jazzmastering but i think i need to eat… dinner? lunch? (it's complicated, i don't normally have breakfast but did today, at a breakfasty time of day too) and then rest for a bit. still running on less than optimal sleep due to recent events. cyaz o7
love the way the Sire J3 headstock shape and that golden finish feels like a good mid-point between this Squier Stratocaster headstock and Fender Telecaster headstock. she fits right in <3
grabbed the guitar rn just on impulse for a minute or so and man am i falling for this thing. it may not be my colour, but it's a pretty good colour, and it's just such a good… object overall. would love to show you all but i gotta get some sleep. suruga out o7
i keep wanting it to be jazzmaster day and it keeps not being jazzmaster day. maybe tomorrow…
finally, a few minutes where i have nothing else i need to do, a perfect time for some jazzmastering. let's just set it up and… puts fingers on fretboard h
hhh
oh god i just bandaged my hand (https://social.noyu.me/@hikari/statuses/01KPDJGF4RNWB6C8VWKX8BJNA7) didn't i
sigh
maybe this evening…
ladies and gentlemen it is at long last finally Jazzmaster Day (https://social.noyu.me/@hikari/statuses/01KPG7GCRNB9QVWS8EW7H15WZ5)
telecaster and basketball for scale
just had my mind blown by finding out the input volume control in the microphone settings on a computer actually does something and if you reduce it then the mic will stop clipping 😭
JAZZmaster (this is with the volume and tone knobs both at 7 — man it is wonderful to have a guitar where we can actually see what we're doing with those, finally! — but the amp is still set to too crunchy of a setting, oops. also, neck position)
ooh picking with our palm resting on the bridge through neck pickup is a cool sound
oops that's not neck position, switch was bumped, thank you oomf for noticing
i wish i could convey just how angry jazzmaster pickups sound
they're sending me to the hague for this but i'm pleading my innocence, i've never spent this long with a jazzmaster neck position available to me, i had to, please, you have to understand—
am i shoegazing yet
that is the first time i have ever successfully used a vibrato arm for anything musical at all
i, kanbaru suruga, fucking love this guitar there is no way we're returning it at this point
this is far, far too much fun, fuck man
why the fuck did we buy a telecaster, i need a word with late-2024 hikari
i need to wind down after that, owning a jazzmaster-shaped object is so fun it is gonna send us manic again if i'm not careful ^^;
time for a relaxing evening i guess
we've really fallen for this thing because its design feels like it has its own personality to it, like it knows what it is, and that thing is not something you see every day. it just… ah, it just makes me happy really
Our J3 had some differential relief and very annoying fret sprout, so we took it to a local guitar workshop to see what they think. In the end we chose to pay to get it set up by them and they dealt with the fret sprout. I (Iwasawa) picked it up just now. We keep it in a bass bag
J3 neck pickup + spring reverb simulation + Vox Pathfinder clean channel
such a sweet sound
tuned down to E♭ standard, this guitar has 10-46's on it right now, too much fretting pressure compared to our main guitar (9-42's with what we believe to be relatively low action)
alas, we have a nemesis, and not the cool basketball devil-collecting ghost kind. it is called G string buzz, and it is annoying the hell out of us, and it's doing so on both the guitars!
wait, is the J3 my guitar now, and the Telecaster is Iwasawa's? this is absolutely not something we decided on, it's just an apparent emergent phenomena we have to deal with now. I might not even play in the same position or with the same chords. sheesh. I hope I'm wrong on this
@hikari@social.noyu.me Those are nothing compared to the DiMarzio super distortion pickups I've been using for decades. If you want angry and the ability to simply turn up the volume on you guitar to get some distortion, choose those.
@lyrial this is a bit of an obnoxious reply, everyone knows that high-output pickups are high-output, the jazzmaster ones are angry in a different way
@hikari@social.noyu.me You're right. I didn't mean to be obnoxious. It's a whole journey to find your personal tone.
@lyrial have you tried a jazzmaster, by the way? for what it's worth, i've never tried a guitar with a super distortion, i just know vaguely it's a pretty different type of thing
@hikari@social.noyu.me I have. I've been playing for.. oh shit does math 29 years. I like the shape of the Jazzmaster, but the sound isn't for me. I settled on an SG for the look, comfort and sound from the pickups I chose. I love those pickups because from any amp I can really push the distortion sounds.
And for what it's worth - the shape/make of the guitar doesn't matter nearly as much as the pickups. You can put good pickups on a 2x4 and it will sound nearly identical. What matters is what you prefer.
I use the super distortion pickups to get a sound as close to Black Sabbath/Deep Purple as I can.
What a beauty!😍
@hikari uh, its a telecaster? Have a great time together!
@DeltaLima anything but! check the alt text :)
