jump to expanded postwe have absolute pitch memory, so we can remember the specific notes of a song we've heard before, in the same key, not scale-relative
this sounds like a musical gift, and it is
but it's been detrimental to our music learning because it makes playing melodies by ear piss easy
if we had relative pitch, learning to play melodies by ear would be much more of a struggle, and we'd have been forced to develop some real skill there, and likely be further in our musical journey than we are now
of course, it would also have disadvantages
moral is we're lazy
