jump to expanded postwe bought an Apple Watch in February 2022, to motivate us to exercise. I'm sure, given the fact I am Kanbaru Suruga, no further explanation is necessary
Naturally we got a band with it, a stretchy braided woven continuous one with no fastener, in red
but over time it loosened
unfortunately in the meantime Apple stopped selling that particular colour. this is terrible! red is my image colour (except when it's blue-purple, it's complicated). which made us put off replacing it
anyway I realised last week there's no reason to buy an official Apple one
so now, finally I can stop re-entering my apple watch PIN 12 times every time I go to basketball practice!
thank you xbraids (hashtag not sponsored)
[instead of alt text: the new one has red plastic instead of metal at the ends, is maybe an inch shorter, and is more vivid red]
โhey aren't you an android userโ
yeah. we keep around an old iphone that wishes it would be put out of its misery already, purely to use the fitness/health/sleep tracking, to enable apple pay, and to be able to backup the watch data. it has no SIM and is powered off 99% the time
@hikari ah, so it can be doneโฆ interesting. no extraneous apps, I presume?
@ticky oh that phone is our old phone so it's technically filled with apps we no longer use (most of which have been automatically deleted to save spaceโฆ), but effectively yes
@ticky if we left the phone on all the time we'd get notifications (for twitter etc) to the watch, but the notifications are an unwanted distraction, so we don't
the watch has cellular support but we don't currently have a plan for it, there's very few times where that is actually useful
@ticky it's nice how apple pay is based around the secure element rather than relying on google's servers, so it works very reliably even though the phone is rarely online (the watch frequently is though; maybe it'd stop working if i turned off the wifi on it for long enough)
