really enjoying pinafore.social. it's an alternative web ui (webclient) for mastodon servers and it's so refreshingly simple, lightweight and fast compared to the clunkiness of the standard mastodon ui. i'm using it because my server's running gotosocial which doesn't have its own built-in webclient like mastodon does, but now that i've tried it, i don't want to use the standard mastodon ui again!

oh my god, the new colleague at work couldn't open the terminal on his Linux machine because his shell is set to /bin/false. I'm amazed you can even get into the GUI when that's the case…

If a project wants to spin up its own Mastodon instance so it can do essentially one-way communication, isn't that a failure of the fediverse in some way? Why can't we follow Atom/RSS feeds as easily as we can Mastodon/etc users? social.dolphin-emu.org/@dolphin/109376583742966980
