i wanted to make a funny observation about the contrast between “nuance” and “shades of gray” if you speak swedish but then i discovered that there was some, ah, nuance i was missing to the swedish word for “nuance”. this is what i love about the world
gods save me i still kinda want to make a new programming language
in 2023 i…
- released touchHLE v0.1.0, probably my crowning achievement
- maintained it and mentored new contributors
- started to run out of steam on it and got into other new hobbies… c compiler for uxn, porting neko to uxn, midi, music composition
- had a fateful meeting with a twitter mutual and subsequently got isekai'd to [redacted] for a week and felt and experienced a whole goddamn lot of things, which i'm still reeling from (also made new friends??)
someday i want to write about 16-bit floating-point because it's a really cute format, but i'd need a cute angle on it to make it worth it…
the heartbleed effect (people care about a thing more if you put a silly name on it)
touchHLE update: no new release this year, i'll get something out in January instead. https://twitter.com/ciciplusplus's Rayman 2 work is on trunk now but there's no music support, so i don't wanna tag a release yet. thanks for your understanding 🙏
in my semi-democratic absolute monarchy, every citizen must spend at least a year in a randomly selected foreign country before being able to vote
ISO C committee, a failed standard effort:
- dysfunctional, couldn't standardise a simple improvement if their lives depended on it
- arcane, incomprehensible specs that nobody reads
- all volunteers. literally nobody involved gets paid
- they have the gall to paywall it??
Khronos (Vulkan, OpenGL) and MIDI specs:
- long track record of pragmatism
- written by big companies that have hardware to ship and no patience for bullshit
- down-to-earth, sometimes refreshingly casual, easy-to-understand specs
- everyone involved has a real job
- free :)
“why are you not irony-poisoned, hikari?”
thank you for asking, imaginary interlocutor
maybe it has something to do with one of the big things i did on twitter, many years back: i watched and livetweeted the whole of Sword Art Online out of morbid, ironic fascination
i'm probably a bit too infodumpy sometimes; if the whole world talked the way i do, it wouldn't be good. but it does have something going for it: my tendency to “over”explain things means you can more quickly pick out whether i'm coming at something from the wrong angle
