LA Noire is such a game. it's supposedly a detective game but you spend half your time driving and it behaves exactly like GTA, including the game rewarding you for property destruction and car theft

‪however you can't run over random civilians 😔 the game gets upset at you if you do that. the cops are meant to protect and serve the public or something‬

god, i'm really liking this now that i've picked it up again. it's so, immersive (sorry). just lose yourself in this beautifully recreated 1940s Los Angeles. i don't know how realistic it is, but it feels great and the æsthetics are on point

my favourite thing about games is always the worlds they can take me to, and this is a really comfy world to step into, even if it's full of violent misogyny and i'm playing a cop

even the driving. especially the driving! once you realise the game tolerates you breaking almost every rule of the road, it can be pretty relaxing. i booted up this game the other day because i was tired and wanted something comfortable to play, and this game is pretty laid-back

just now i was doing that thing that's so routine in this game: walking in and out of Central. walking is very smooth and neat in this game, it feels good. you can hear the clacking of Phelps's shoes against the hard wood floor, echoing down the hallway. it's very pleasing.

i fucking love it when a game suddenly turns into Mirror's Edge

though it's not like it wasn't Mirror's Edge the rest of the time either

okay i was unfair, this segment is extremely Mirror's Edge. i mean it's not parkour, but climbing pipes, navigating scaffolding, tightrope walking and jumping short gaps, that's Mirror's Edge to me

i came for the "X to doubt" and i ended up with a driving simulator with fantastical set-pieces large and small

ok so the tense action sequence music continued playing through the final scene, which is meant to have uh, appropriately sombre music instead. lmao

well, now i've finished l.a. noire. uhhh. it was fun. i recommend it.
