rare swedish politics post: a cap on benefits is bad and sweden shouldn't follow the uk's lead on that, nor should it try to make out-of-work benefits harder to get. the rhetoric is about motivating people to work, but it's bad for people who work: it pushes down wages!

in sweden, the state has intentionally tied its hands in regards to most other interventions in the labour market, but make no mistake, welfare policy is also an intervention, and a crucial one. if out-of-work benefits are generous, employers have to offer good wages to compete.

i wish social democratic politicians would have a fucking spine and stand up for their own voters' actual interests, rather than trying to play an inevitably losing optics game, which actually benefits business. if the social democrats fuck up on this then fire them into the sun.

you should also oppose stricter welfare policies for their cruelty and disastrous impact on poverty, especially for disabled people, but it's important to attack the main argument too. some people are selfish.
